Laguna Phuket Golf Club Update

The recently redesigned Laguna Phuket Golf Club is both a strategic and memorable golf experience. The redesign by golf course architect Paul Jansen has highlighted the character of the existing property making for a memorable golf experience. Golfers are now asked to think their way around the golf course as each hole offers a multitude of shot options and both nines have good variety.

The Phuket golf course is more undulating than before which has helped improve the surface conditions considerably as well as provide strategic interest. Fairway tiers, depressions and mounds now dictate some of the play as golfers are given the opportunity to maneuver their way around the golf course using the humps and bumps to propel their ball towards the target. The fairways are wide – some as much as 50 yards wide – but golfers still need to position their ball to have an advantage on their next shot.

Many holes on the front nine are dictated by the existing water bodies which have been landscaped to look very natural whereas the back nine meanders through some wonderful mature trees. Both nines take advantage of many existing and outstanding trees which influence some of the play and frame many of the holes. The rough areas are mix of wood chip and native grasses which makes for a very sustainable model of golf. There are fewer bunkers than before instead the new bunkers have positioned to create strategic interest and are visually strong and natural in appearance. There are multitudes of risk / reward options over all 18 holes as golfers can expect to play a variety of interesting and imaginative shots.

In summary the new Phuket golf course is a visual treat and very playable for all levels of golfers.
